Jim Clark commemorated with limited edition Emira

This year marks a big anniversary for Jim Clark and Team Lotus. Sixty years ago, the Scot won his second Formula One World Championship and the Indianapolis 500. He remains the only driver to have won both in the same year, a feat that is unlikely to ever be repeated. What’s more, Clark also had victories in Formula Two, the Tasman Series and touring cars aboard a Lotus Cortina.

To this day, Clark’s achievements stand out as among the very finest in motorsport history – and his successes are due to be marked at the Jim Clark Celebration Weekend in Duns.

Lotus Cars has also paid tribute to Clark’s 1965 season with a limited edition Emira V6. Limited to just 60 cars that will be made available in selected markets, the Emira Clark Edition is finished in an evocative green and yellow colour scheme, the stripe flared around the front air intake just as it was with Clark’s Indy 500-winning Lotus Type 38.

Other details include the contrasting black roof and silver mirrors, while a hand-painted pinstripe delineates the Emira’s swage line. Further inspiration is taken from Clark’s Type 38. A machined fuel filler cap features a blue anodised centre, while the exhaust tips are finished in yellow.

Inside, the asymmetrical colour scheme gives the driver a red leather-trimmed seat and the passenger black Alcantara, while the dashboard trim emphasises the car’s driver-focused nature. There’s a 1960s-style wooden gearknob, Clark’s signature on the dashboard and Team Lotus detailing in the seats. Jim Clark badging features his personalised tartan from Lochcarron, Scotland. Numbered carbonfibre treadplates also feature, while each Emira Clark Edition buyer will also receive a hand-crafted leather holdall.

Under the skin, the Emira’s 400bhp Toyota V6 engine and six-speed gearbox remains unchanged but the cosmetic detailing does of course come at a premium. The price for an Emira Clark Edition? £115,000.
