I have loved every minute of my 3 year ownership of my 1970 Elan +2S. These are fantastic cars and I would love to keep it, but I simply don’t do enough miles to justify keeping it and we are planning a house and garage downsize!
This example was restored by well know Elannet contributor Jon, and I can forward more details of the restoration on request but the headlines and why I bought it are:
A chassis up rebuild between 2007 and roughly 2010
A full gelcoat re-paint
New wiring loom
Leather upholstery
Rebuilt engine with QED cams producing 140bhp
Electronic ignition and engine management system
Rebuilt gearbox and diff
Rebuilt suspension and brakes
Stainless tank
Repainted Spyder chassis
As you will see this is a sensibly tweaked and improved car, rather than a pursuit for originality or a concourse. I have attended to a lot of wear and tear items maintain and improve it. It has just under 20,000 miles since it’s restoration and in my tenure is has had:
New wheel bearings all round
New TTR Rear shock absorbers
New front brake callipers and master cylinder
New radiator & temperature sensor & fans
Rebuilt carburettors
Cometic rocker gasket to solve those leaks!
New fuel hoses and filter
New lower front suspension bushes
New LED headlamps and relays
New speedo drive and oil seal
New mats and boot carpet
New modern battery
New door mirrors
New Tyres
Serviced annually and it has a new MOT with no advisories.
So, if I were keeping it, I was planning to:
Renew the door hinge bushes
Fix a glovebox catch
I am in no hurry and hope to find a new custodian to keep VRH314H alive, appreciated and renewed and it is up for £24,500.
