It’s a simple enough concept: open up a field, invite Lotus owners to join a picnic and watch as close to 100 examples of the marque assemble for a sunny afternoon. That was Richard Hinton’s idea when he posted on the Historic Lotus Register’s Facebook page late last year about the event he was proposing, and that’s exactly what occurred on the first weekend of July. And even the weather played ball, which hasn’t been a given so far in 2024.
Despite the event originating from the Historic Lotus Register, Lotuses of all ages were welcome. The newest car on the field was an Eletre, the electric SUV towering over its sports car forebears. The earliest model present was a Mark VI, which was semi-encircled by Lotus and Caterham Sevens. Elsewhere, there were lines of Elans, rows of Esprits and gatherings of Elises – among many others.
